To understand completely this text, besides to read the 10 Chapter of St. John, I advice you in like manner to read the previous comment. Study of the Book of St. John (Bear in mind that this text is a continuation of the Study of St. John.)
Bear in mind that different religions or groups can have other interpretations of the Bible text. In the next point express my interpretation in continuity of analysis of book Saint John. Please don't feel offended if you think the opposite to something expressed here, if not, I couldn't write about these issues that are for many people, interesting and important.
Jua 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
Jua 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
Jua 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
Jua 10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
Jua 10:38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
V.34-35
Some religious leaders accused to Jesus Christ, for said that is the Son of God. Jesus gave an example, people consecrated that received the Word of God are like Gods, is in the Scriptures. From them we get, perfectly preserved, what we now know as the Old Testament, and added in the New Testament, all about the Savior. We'll analyze this issue especially "I said, Ye are gods" in this part of the
study of John. An example of this is in Exodus 4:16, and Psalm 82:1-3, and is a specific aplication of the term "gods" and shouldn't be confused.
Let's expand a little, the strange topic from possibility of considering gods to the people, and at least some of features of this, or how to interpret it.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Gen 1:26 King James traduction)
There are many features that humans have similar to God, some of these: government, judgment, creative mind, feelings, even to giving or bring each others honor, from a little way -if it weren't, so there would be no such prizes skills-, ability to predict (knowing what will happen by thinking, nothing to do with divination)
But also we talk about some supernatural power? God willing, may occur amazing miracles -the greatest and most beautiful-, and in turn we are nothing without Him. Jesus the Son of God, gave the example: As like tasteless salt will end up being thrown out from the house Mt.5: 13, is the one who loses the Christian life. The following is applicable to miracles:
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (Jua 15:5 King James traduction)
Those which demonstrated more miracles in their life and their around -talking from amazing things-, are generally those that are very close to God, consecrated, separated from the cares of the world, very dependent on Him, and full of humility recognizing that without God they can't be right. But God uses as He wills, sometimes one, sometimes another, and many times uses to someone that find grace in front Him.
Without God the things reach cluttered, it corrupts, and corruption cause pain. In God there is an order, joy, happiness, and great power that moves. This power that Jesus also teaches again and again, focuses on faith. An example:
(Mar 10:49) And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
(Mar 10:50) And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
(Mar 10:51) And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
(Mar 10:52) And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
(Mark 10:49-52, King James traduction )
I like Romans 10:11 that says: "For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." It must have in count that exist a relationship between prayer and faith.
Also, not get confuse that was called the greatest of the prophets to John the Baptist (Matthew 11:11), and not is recorded any amazing miracle that God has made through him. Beyond the great privilege, the great honors that he received from God, having been the witness, who was coming before the Lord, having baptized Jesus and having seen the Spirit descending on Him.
Then, what talking the Bible when says that we are like gods? Says that God someway, made to his children, in his likeness. They staying in the Word, are as gods. Even being firm in God, and with faith they seek His power is manifest, so this is manifests; God answers prayers: give them support.
This power is made from the fact of persevere in faith, despite being in the middle of a martyrdom (example, Stephen preaching in Acts 7:51-60), to walking on water (Matthew 14:18-31), to name two examples. However, that doesn't mean that people does all what they wants, but it means that God help, not having them like less, otherwise if they are one of their children, childs of God, gods made by the only one, true God.
This doesn't mean that one is going to risk your life, for example jumping from a building waiting to "the angels sustain us" Even Jesus Christ was subjected to the will of the Father. He gave examples of the right way to behave: Matthew 4:1-10. In Matthew 6:10 teaches to pray asking that God's will is done, an excellent thing to have in mind always, as God wants the best, believe! God knows the happiness better than people knows. Nor does it means have any power for personal gain and to satisfy cravings of vainglory, or image be illuminated or special envoy of God, please ...! Who make the miracles is God, He gives, He takes away, He judges.
Let's continue with the study of all the biblical text. These Bible studies, from author Javier R. Cinacchi in Estudiargratis.net, I correct them occasionally. Read this website to find the best version. Thanks por read, so, is what I need to continue, write it took me three days.
V 36. Jesus Christ is the one whom God consecrated to be among the people teaching and saving those who believe in Him. The word "sanctified", some versions translate it as "keep away" (separated from special way for something specific).
37-38. Jesus not only showed words, also presented facts. At that time, miraculous events were known by the Jews, heard like a news, experienced by those who had faith and received miracles. In His message says that to be saved, if someone not believes in His words, at least must believes in His works. Currently Jesus Christ hasn't changed, still working, and who have put their faith in Him, from correct way, weren't ashamed. He keeps doing miracles today, in some evangelical churches usually is very noticeable.
Final note: The purpose of this message is that Jesus Christ can truly be called Son of God. Even with humility the Christian can say, " I am a child of God" and like already we saw, is not exaggerating, because until even is mentioned the word "gods". Also, a little let it glimpse one way: the consecration to God, in which the most important is not exactly to have long theological studies. Understanding the Scriptures is necessary, but caring hearts, even more. Also, what defiles a man is not what outside, but what comes from inside.
